Volunteering During the Covid-19 Pandemic

We know that volunteering during a pandemic can be a little intimidating. That’s why we’ve worked hard to ensure a safe working environment for all our volunteers.  Most volunteer roles have now been facilitated to be remote, rather than site based, to remove the anxiety that comes with working in an environment other than your home.  We’ve also moved all meetings onto Teams and all training now takes place online.

Where equipment is needed, we make arrangements to provide volunteers with whatever is essential to the role, so there’s no need to worry about whether your laptop is up to date with the latest security software.  If you’d like any more details about how we’re making volunteering safe in a Covid facing world, please feel free to ask!

Information and Advice

This is our busiest department and at present has the most volunteers. This team is responsible for supporting people to apply, appeal or manage welfare benefits, as well as provide information, advice and advocacy to disabled people in need.

To volunteer in this department, you will likely have a good understanding of disability-related barriers, have some basic computer skills, be empathetic and have your own transport. You could help people to complete their benefits applications, support them to attend appointments and much more.
