Accessible Transport for All

Over a lilac background is a photograph of two Equal Lives staff members at a table covered in our organisation's leaflets. With bold purple text that reads 'Transport, could you live without it?', underneath it in dark blue text are the words 'We're tackling stigma, price inequalities and physical accessibility on all forms of public transport. If you are a disabled person or support someone who is, join Equal Lives for FREE and be part pf our 'Making Transport Accessible' campaign. Visit our website, call us, email us or find us on social media. Website: equallives.org.uk. Email: membership@equallives.org.uk. Tel: 01508 491 222. With numerous purple outlines of transport forms below; lorry, car, electric car, bus, taxi, train and tram. In lilac text box designed to look like a post-it note, are the green words 'Did you know? 33% of disabled people feel unable to use public transport because of social attitudes'.

Our  Accessible Transport  for All project was created at the beginning of 2020 after our members relayed their experiences of travelling around Norfolk. Through our physical disabilities project we also noticed a trend around access to transport for those living in residential care homes. The first phase of our project involves inviting taxi firms to take part in the project. If they do not want to take part we will independently review their accessibility.

The taxi firms will be assessed using the following criteria:

Availability of information

Physical access of office/premises

Awareness of staff

Attitude towards Disability

Availability of accessible vehicles

Our survey is still live. If you haven't completed it already please share your experiences. It will enable us to build a clearer picture of the barriers faced.

We can also talk through the survey on the phone, if you would prefer.
