At the end of 2020 – I was asked to set up a project for us to take over the Norwich Shopmobility in Chantry Place.
This was so exciting for us – a new area of work and a big project for me to get my teeth stuck into. I was really looking forward to trying something new and starting the new year.
We worked with Chantry Place to get things handed over, we put out our adverts to recruit and – lockdown 3.0 hit.
We stayed positive and held our interview via Microsoft Teams. We met with a few people, but Kyle stuck out as the man for the job. Kyle was so enthusiastic, and his passion for customer service gave us new energy for the project. Unfortunately for us – lockdown wasn’t the only delay we had to contend with. I’ll spare you the rest, but finally, in September 2021 – we can say…we did it!
Kyle has somehow stayed positive and enthusiastic the whole time and is looking forward to greeting you all at Shopmobility Chantry Place.
The Norwich Dandies have painted an absolutely beautiful mural on the main wall, and it looks fantastic. We asked for the theme to be ‘disabled people enjoying Norwich’ and they have delivered. The mural shows the marketplace, the river, disabled people having fun and they even included Kyle in the painting! See if you can spot him when you come in.
So, what does Shopmobility look like now?
Like with so many things, Shopmobility looks a little different after (during?!) the pandemic.
So, what are we offering?
Mobility Scooter Hire
Wheelchair Hire
We have mobility scooters and wheelchairs for hire, on a half day or full day basis. There are set prices for Pay As You Go, or you can buy an annual pass and get yourself a discount. You will also qualify for a discount if you are an Equal Lives member – so make sure you sign up before you arrive to take advantage:
At present, Chantry Place are unable to offer free parking, however this may be something they bring back in future once we have an idea of how busy the service is.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their patience. We’ve had a lot of people asking about when we can open and it’s good to know people still want to use the service after everything that has happened.
